Zooarchaeologist

£24,600 - £32,000 depending on experience (G4-G6)
Based in Barnard Castle, County Durham
We are looking for a full-time Zooarchaeologist to join our team in Barnard Castle.
Main responsibilities
• Identify, catalogue, assess and report on animal bone (mammal and bird) from archaeological excavations
• Undertake detailed analysis of animal bone assemblages [or be prepared to be trained in this area]
• Specialise in a particular area of animal bone studies
• Liaise with clients and/or other specialists
• Advise Post-Excavation Archaeologists on animal bone processing
• Provide time estimates for assessment and analysis work
Other duties
You are encouraged to identify appropriate training and CPD opportunities.
Reporting
The Zooarchaeologist will report to the Zooarchaeologist/Director (HR) and/or the Post-Excavation Manager (EF) as needed.
While you may advise the team in some situations, you have no formal line-management responsibilities.
Post requirements
• Master’s degree in archaeology or related subject or equivalent experience
• Experience in animal bone identification, assessment and reporting

Reporting
The General Assistant will report to the Directors (HR and DG) and/or the Post-Excavation Manager (EF) as needed.
Post requirements
An interest in archaeology would be advantageous
A driver's license and access to a vehicle with business insurance is essential [mileage paid at 50p/mile]
